We're witnessing a classic case of a narcissist believing their own hype.
Frankly, I don't get the enthusiasm for Donald Trump. Never have. I understand the need for America to have someone who will speak the truth (as he or she sees it), but once you get past the obvious "I can do a better job than Obama" mantra (I mean really - who couldn't?), there's not a lot of truth in Trump's oratory.
Plain speaking does not equal being right.
Let's face it; taking a couple of obscure lines from a pre-9/11 book, and claiming you foresaw the evil of Osama bin Laden before anyone else is not exactly at the Nostradamus level of predictions, now is it? And playing on the fears of Americans immediately following the Islamic extremist terror attack in San Bernardino by saying he'd ban all Muslims from entering the U.S. is not only crazy, but bigoted.
Yes, bigoted. Donald J. Trump is a bigot.
But here's where I believe Trump has finally become unhinged. With recent GOP attacks against him from across the spectrum - so-called "establishment" Republicans as well as his fellow GOP contenders, Trump is once again hinting that if he fails to get the GOP nomination, he could go it alone in a third-party bid for the White House. But apparently Donald trump, for all his bluster, can't do math very well.
He's crowing about a recent poll where apparently 68% of his supporters would vote for him even if he were to run outside of the GOP. Let's say those numbers are even remotely correct, even in the early stages of a presidential campaign where there are still too many choices to make before the first ballot has been cast. Let's say his supporter's love for The Donald is so intense, that people will follow him off the usual ballot to cast their only vote for President.
He'd get historic-level numbers, but still not win a single, solitary Electoral College vote, and hand an easy victory to the Democrats once again.
Let's do the math. Currently, Trump is in the low 30 percent range of support for the GOP nomination (and that's his high point). When all 68% of his supporters no longer vote for the GOP nominee, Trump gets a whopping - 23% of the popular vote!
So what does that do? Even in southern states, 23% doesn't get you a win, which just might give the Democrat nominee the Electoral votes. We could be witnessing the first 50 state blowout and a unanimous Electoral College vote which might just put the most corrupt politician to ever run for office into the White House. That, of course, would be Hillary Clinton.
So Trump supporters, do America a favor. He isn't going to be elected on either the GOP or third-party ballot, so start looking at someone else. Anyone else. Your love of the bombastic, plain speaking Trumpster just fuels this guys narcissism, and hands the Oval Office to Hillary. You're really no better than the left was with electing Barack Obama (oratory over ability), and look how well that turned out for America . . .
