How ironic that a sitting U.S. senator from Massachusetts would spend all her time attacking anything to do with Donald Trump, even resorting to calling him and his running mate "small, weak men", using Twitter, a media which limits you to 140 characters.
Small and weak defines you, Liz Warren.
Oh, and why are you pulling an Obama and keeping your employment records sealed regarding whether you "checked the box" to get ahead in life?
And if I were being attacked for not being very forthcoming about my heritage, I'd be the first one to take a DNA test to prove it. But then, openness and truth is not really in your wheel house, is it Lizzie?
Speaking of Twitter, someone needs to break Donald Trump's PC and smartphone. Or his fingers and thumbs. Or both.
But then, 140 characters is just about the limit of the attention span that voters in 2016 have, especially given the two main choices for President.
Liberals are quick to blame the guns, but are silent on the scourge of box trucks.
And speaking of guns, when a President goes to a memorial service for 5 murdered cops, he shouldn't engage in hyperbole about the availability of guns vs. library books as Obama did. In fact, he should just shut his pie-hole about his views on guns for that one day. But this is Obama, who never wastes an opportunity to further his political agenda, no matter what the tragedy. Pretty ghoulish, if you ask me.
I will not be watching one second of the upcoming train wreck known as the GOP convention.
Nor it's counterpart on the Democrat side. Listening to elected officials pushing programs which violate their oath to the Constitution is not something I'm willing to do voluntarily.
The disgust that many voters feel for both main party candidates is going to make swing states very interesting this year. There could be as many as a dozen or more states where the winner doesn't get to 50% due to significant third-party votes, especially on the Libertarian side.
I would never base my vote on who a Hollywood actor supports. Those people are as vapid a group of folks I have ever seen. They are the very definition of self-important hypocrites.
Roger Goodell is a power-crazed moron who is going to see his Captain Ahab-like pursuit of Tom Brady come back at him when the next NFL Players Association collective bargaining agreement has to be negotiated.
But the best revenge would be the New England Patriots hoisting the Lombardi trophy next February, and not so politely telling Goodell to "get off our effin' stage". Or Gronk spiking the trophy on Goodell's foot. Or both.
Things are getting out of hand here, and there is no end in sight.
In a world of black and white perceptions, no compromise is available, but here goes . . .
1. Government alone cannot and will not solve the problems which foster the environment that is killing young black men.
Bottom-line, black men and women need to stop having kids without committing to one another for life, and without having the means to support their entire family without government assistance. And yes, this applies to white families as well, but right now, young white men aren't the ones getting killed. Those mothers and fathers need to keep their kids in schools, and stop believing that those schools alone are going to educate their children.
2. School systems need to improve.
First of all, less bloated administration and more teachers would go a long way. Second, teachers unions should be disbanded; they serve no purpose except to protect teacher jobs, not enhance teacher performance. Curricula need to be devised to teach our kids 21st century skills so that they can function in a 21st century workforce.
And they need to be taught about this country's history and beginnings. They need to be taught that government is a partner, not a provider.
And any school that fails in these tasks needs to be able to be taken over by the state government for fixing. Too many systems with failing schools and dismal records are still operating with the people the voters are too stupid to vote out of office.
3. Stop exaggerating the problem.
Yes, it's tragic when anyone, black or white, is killed by law enforcement - especially if that death could have been avoided through many different means, but this isn't an epidemic. It's just that in the media-driven environment we live in, those deaths are blown out of proportion by a media and a culture looking for an excuse to vent their anger.
There was a woman on last night's 'The Kelly File', a "community activist" from Chicago, whose answer to these killings was to eliminate all police forces and bring in "community-driven solutions" - whatever that means. Of course, she failed to provide any specifics on just what those solutions might be, nor failed to address the black-on-black murder rate in her home town - the murder capital of the world. In some ways, I actually applaud her basic thought, that government solutions aren't working, but I'll bet that she'd be back-pedaling all day long and into the night if she was told that she shouldn't expect government solutions to provide jobs, pay, healthcare or welfare because they aren't working, either.
4. Stop resisting arrest.
Yes, it's embarrassing (I guess - I've never been arrested - but then, I've never done anything that might warrant arrest, either), but resisting escalates the situation into confrontation. There are thankfully few situations where police come in as the aggressor and ramp up the testosterone levels of situations. They are almost always in the mode of ramping up the response to someone who is resisting their authority.
5. Police need better training.
In the recent killing in Minnesota, police were attempting to restrain a resisting (see?) man. As they were attempting to restrain him, one officer was using one hand to try to control the perp, while his other hand held his un-holstered gun. THAT is never proper police procedure.
6. Police need to clean up their ranks.
There are bad cops out there. Cops who don't have the mental makeup to think through situations when the environment escalates, and cops who are flat-out bigots or racists. Cops need to stop protecting cops who they know don't meet the standards that the 21st century requires of them. It's like the medical profession protecting bad doctors; sooner or later someone's going to get hurt or die. In addition, these useless tail-light stops need to end. So someone's tail-light is out - big deal. This is just another reason for bad cops to harass usually innocent people, and they lead to far too many unnecessary confrontations. Same with seat belt stops. There is NO Constitutional authority for government to protect us from ourselves, and seat belt laws are nothing but a nanny-state gone amok.
And finally . . .
7. Stop blaming (fill-in-the-blank) for your problems.
The only person to blame for your lot in life is yourself - no one else.
Is it overreach to place the blame for everything going to pieces on one person?
Not if that person is Barack Obama.
In the past several years, we've seen home-grown and imported terrorist attacks on U.S. soil, illegal immigrants who should have been in jail or deported murdering Americans with with guns or automobiles, too many bad actors in blue uniforms overreacting in the line of duty while others are falsely accused of doing so, and a minority population in despair and looking for a scapegoat - any scapegoat - to blame their troubles on.
The fabric that once held this formerly great country together is unraveling, and the one entity which should be that safety blanket when things get out of hand is responsible for unraveling it.
At this point, does anybody truly believe that the Obama administration can fix anything?
He's had seven years to put up a string of actual successes. His first two years in office, he had a House and Senate who gave him virtually anything he asked for - Stimulus I, Stimulus II, Clunkers for Cash, Obamacare - you name it, he got it.
And it just didn't work.
He disengaged us from Iraq (an unholy mess that never should have happened in the first place), reduced our presence in Afghanistan, supported the Arab Spring movement in Egypt and the overthrow of Ghaddafi in Libya, proclaimed ISIS a JV team, and hired the most dishonest and least capable woman in the world to be his Secretary of State, then followed her act with one of the most useless Senators in Massachusetts history to succeed her.
And it just didn't work.
He was hailed as the first post-racial or trans-racial President in American history, then promptly inserted himself into every local racial incident he could, hired incompetent people to head up Justice and Homeland Security based neither on the content of their character nor their qualifications, but on the color of their skin.
And it just didn't work.
So when Obama talks about young black men being killed by police officers, claiming that "no one should be above the law", on the very day he travels with Hillary Clinton to one of her campaign events following a stunning rebuke of her email security practices by the Director of the FBI, is there any wonder that there is no confidence that Obama can do anything in his last six months in office to fix what, largely, he created or made worse? And as of this morning, at least 5 Dallas police officer are dead following a sniper attack on them while they were keeping the peace at a Black Lives Matter demonstration.
The irony would be laughable if it weren't so tragic.
“Although there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case.” - FBI Director James Comey
After months of investigation, and just a couple of days after FBI agents allegedly "interviewed" the most corrupt woman in America regarding her reckless actions in violating Federal law, it all comes down to this.
Because the idiots comprising the voting GOP public have gone and nominated a certifiable whack-job and clown in Donald Trump, even someone as disgustingly crooked and thoroughly dishonest as Hillary Clinton is an odds-on favorite to win the Presidency in November. And everybody down the food chain who wants to protect their high-paying and secure civil service jobs aren't going to jeopardize their future employment in a pathetically weak economy by crossing Madam Hillary Vindictive Clinton.
Here's what Comey's statement actually said:
“Although there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that there are no prosecutors in the Justice Department with sufficient backbone who would risk their careers by bringing such a case. And even if there were, no judge would want to take it for the same reason. Finally, even if an honest judge were to be found, holding any trial in Washington, D.C. would simply ensure a jury pool that worships any and all Democrats and who wouldn't convict Hillary of murder if she were caught and photographed with a bloody knife in her hand.”
THAT is the sad and sorry state of so-called justice in 21st century America.
How can you celebrate freedom when it's being taken away step-by-step?
Freedom OF Religion is not supposed to be Freedom FROM Religion. There is no "separation of church and state" in the U.S. Constitution, nor has there ever been. I'm Agnostic, but you'll never hear me gripe about prayer in schools, or Christmas displays on government property. Remember that the actual wording of the First Amendment says "Congress shall make no law . . . ". Government may not establish a national religion, but there is nothing in the Constitution forbidding government from acknowledging religious beliefs.
Freedom of speech is rapidly disappearing under the guise of political correctness. Strong opinions are now "hate speech". The Obama administration actually jailed the maker of the film used as a scapegoat for the Benghazi terrorist attacks. There is even talk of prosecuting climate change deniers because they disagree with the closely-held beliefs of the current administration.
Are you really free to own a gun? Only the ones that are approved by the government. Same with ammunition. You won't be able to buy ammo in Portland, OR very soon due to a tax on each round sold. Too bad they'll likely never collect a dime, since the only place that sells ammo will move out of the jurisdiction, and the people will STILL buy their ammo outside the city limits for use inside the city limits.
How about your Fourth Amendment right to unlawful searches and seizures? How many stories are there regarding police seizures of large amounts of cash, simply because cash is suspected of being the currency of drug dealers? Law-abiding citizens almost never get their lawful money back, and if they do, they get no interest even if it is held for years.
Ditto for your Fifth Amendment rights. Ever hear of Alabaster, Alabama? The local government there decided that Walmart's argument that it could generate more taxes for the local government than those pesky existing homeowners could ever do, so Alabaster, Alabama took the property for a PRIVATE use (with allegedly just compensation to the former owners) and gave it to Walmart. I don't shop at Walmart unless I have to after that debacle. How about Kelo v. New London? Our own misguided US Supreme Court even got this one wrong. Again, a government entity (New London, CT) decided that it was in the public's best interest that private homes were not as valuable as a commercial venture, and took the private property for another (allegedly higher) best use.
Regardless of what social conservatives believe, a woman's right to have an abortion exists (via the right to privacy as established by the Supreme Court), yet it doesn't stop conservatives from trying to find ways to restrict that right through the back door by setting unreasonable standards for doctors and clinics. Standards which are being overturned by that same Supreme Court.
Can you drive without a seat belt on? Not saying you should, but what role of government is being carried out by keeping yourself safe from - yourself?
And finally, it's against the law in many states to buy and set off fireworks in celebration of our independence from tyranny!
How . . . ironic.
So I'm no longer going to lift a finger in celebration of the 4th of July. "We're freer than most" just isn't inspiring enough for me. And it shouldn't be for you.
Hi! I'm Dave Richard, your host. I hope you enjoy your visit. We'll be talking about current events, politics, the occasional sports (I'm a HUGE New England Patriots fan, so get over it), and some "Get off my lawn!" issues.
